The SDI Marine EcoSystems Awareness Diver course develops an understanding of marine ecosystems and the environmental challenges that affect aquatic environments around the world.
Healthy marine ecosystems are essential for biodiversity, fisheries, coastal protection, and recreational diving. Divers are uniquely positioned to observe, document, and help protect these environments through responsible diving practices and environmental stewardship.

Training Options
The SDI Marine EcoSystems Awareness programme can be delivered through three different training methodologies, allowing participants to select the format most appropriate for their interests, experience level, and objectives. Participants may choose from:
- SDI Marine EcoSystems Awareness Diver
- Includes all academic requirements and 2 open water scuba dives
- SDI Marine EcoSystems Awareness Snorkeler
- Includes all academic requirements and 2 snorkelling sessions
- SDI Marine EcoSystems Awareness: Academics Only
- Includes all academic and environmental-awareness components (No in-water sessions required)
All three pathways focus on developing awareness of marine ecosystems, environmental stewardship, biodiversity, conservation challenges, and responsible interaction with aquatic environments.
