Effective underwater navigation allows divers to confidently locate entry and exit points, follow planned routes, conserve energy, improve situational awareness, and safely return to predetermined locations.

Course Facts
Course name: SDI Underwater Navigation Diver
Level: Advanced Recreational Speciality
Minimum prerequisites: Minimum age 10, SDI Open Water Scuba Diver (or equivalent)
Ratio: Maximum of 8 students per instructor (small groups recommended for quality training)
Configuration: Students use standard open water scuba equipment including mask, snorkel, fins, buoyancy compensator device, regulator system, cylinder, dive computer, underwater compass, delayed surface marker buoy
Depth / environment: Within recreational no-decompression limits, Open water training sites, Coastal dive sites, Inland dive sites, Recreational diving environments
Format: Academic development + navigation theory + compass workshops + natural navigation exercises + 2 open water dives
Duration: Approximately 1 day, 2 open water dives
