Overview

The TDI Dräger Ray SCR Diver course introduces divers to semi-closed circuit rebreather (SCR) diving using the Dräger Ray unit.

The Ray is a compact SCR system designed around fixed mass flow rates and nitrox mixtures, allowing divers to recycle breathing gas and extend dive duration while reducing gas consumption.

Training focuses on unit-specific operation, gas selection, flow rate management, and failure response, where precision and discipline are essential. Divers learn to manage a life-support system that requires continuous awareness and immediate corrective action.

At N9BO℠, this course is delivered as systems-based training, developing control, redundancy awareness, and structured problem-solving under operational conditions.

Prerequisites

FAQ

The Dräger Ray is a semi-closed rebreather (SCR) using preset flow rates and nitrox mixtures to maintain a breathable gas mix while recycling part of the breathing gas.

Depth is not fixed — it is limited by:

  • Gas mixture used
  • Maximum PO₂ (1.6 ATA)
  • Manufacturer recommendations

The Ray is a simpler, more compact SCR system, with fewer flow options, making it ideal as an entry-level rebreather platform.

  • Hypoxia / hyperoxia
  • Incorrect flow rate selection
  • CO₂ buildup from scrubber failure
  • Loop flooding

Upon successful completion of this course, you may engage in no decompression diving activities utilising the unit-specific semi-closed-circuit rebreather to a maximum depth of 40 Metres/130 Feet, without decompression, utilising nitrox mixes not exceeding your level of certification.
